"Alright people. Today's the day. Battle day. Get your weapons and be here at zero five hundred hours. I want them cleaned up, nice and shiny, no oily sticky shit on it, no, nothing, you understand me?!"
"Sir, we get you, sir!"
"Go, go, go ladies." Commanding Officer Jake shouted.
The sound of boots thumping on the tarred road, the sound of magazines clipping and guns clocking. I looked at my team and wondered, what if we won? What if we were the best battalion? What if we were the best infantry squadron? What if we were promoted to Robotics and Reconnaissance? That would be cool. Two years into the terrorist war we earned ourselves each, an honor badge, we took down ten enemy hideouts, over two hundred dead terrorist, over one hundred captured and we have gotten six of their most wanted terrorists. That badge gave us an extra load, we are now an elite sniper team. We are elite sniper team, elite weaponry division, elite anti-terrorist squad, elite hunt-n-kill team. That goes with our team name, Team Alpha Wolfs.
"Sir! Team Alpha Wolfs, 136th Infantry Battalion Army, reporting for duty sir." I registered myself.
"Welcome Corporal Seiss. Do you know why you are here?"
"Erm, with this people, no sir."
"That explains all. You all are here for an extensive practice so that you all, after the completion of this course, would get you a rank, Colonel."
There were whispers.
"Now SILENCE soldiers. You are not in a political meeting, you are in a formal military meeting! And as you know, serving as Colonel, you would get yourselfs an extra pay of 40% higher and a home to stay at the Ex-military housing estate, where soldiers with the ranks Commander, General, Colonel, Level Three Pilots and more higher ranks to stay there. Well. Good luck for your test. Dismiss."
Oh shit. The training was torturing. What I liked most was the shooting trainings. It was down to earthly freaking fun. I'd prefer an M4A03. A sniper rifle. Classic military style. Still. That was then. Now is now.
The explosion almost made me deaf. I ducked down an through a small hole I saw the enemy advancing, they look as though they were invincible. I looked to my left and my junior, Private Hanks was shivering all over. "Get your nerves straight soldier and get back into battle." Looking to my right I saw Sergeant Hicks, "Sergeant, machine gun, here now." He looked at me and said, "Sir, yes sir." I got hold of his M249 machine gun, dubbed the 'Para Machine Gun'. I fitted it in through the hole and fired aimlessly. All I heard was the machine gun fire and people screaming in pain. The I told Private Hanks, "Private! Grenade! Now!" He looked at me and shiveringly took his M67 grenade and threw out of our bunker. All we heard were an explosion and sounds of blood splatter. I removed the M249 Para and peeked, nobody left, all there's left were bodies, weapons, bones, flesh, fresh blood, hands, legs, torso, everything you could see from a human, its as though it is an encyclopedia, but torn off? I looked up at my soldiers faces and laughed. They looked at me as though I was a lunatic, somewhat crazy psychotic man killing enemies for the laugh of it. Then I turned to them and said this, "Its over boys, let's go. Job done. Mission accomplished. Well done." And smiled.
That was at the Middle East. We were transferred to somewhere North, the location, classified. We were at the houses, camping and so-called spying on our target for a week plus, possibly two weeks or more. The thirty man squadron was controlled by me. I was the one in charge. I sent one squad to cover our asses in case of an ambush, one squad of ten men. Another ten was watching the enemies as they go on their daily activities. Two men with AK-47s, walks out and in, and out and in, they were on guard duty. A few men were seen on strategic locations for anti-tank positions, on window panes, and we see a few people on the roof, probably with a SATCOMs to receive orders from their superior.
Finally after two weeks of monitoring the enemy we attacked, we actually ambushed them. I crawled nearby where the enemies were guarding and threw a flash grenade. All I heard was "poof" and then "tiiiiiiiiiii." Yeah, deafening, after I did that, I jumped in and opened fired, followed by my reinforcements of Privates, Corporals, Sergeants, Sergeant Majors and Officer Cadets. We, the thirty of us barged in and fired on any enemies we see. Suddenly I heard a familiar sound. It made me think back of my past, where it haunted me till now.
-Two years ago-
"Jack! Move it Jack! Clear off the place!"
"What? I can't hear you? What? Seiss? Are you there? Seiss?"
"Get off from there! NOW! HURRY UP!"
"Oh. okay."
It was too late. I heard the sound of the barrages of missiles coming, louder and louder, and then right before my eyes I saw Jack, my best buddy in the army, I had known him since high school, we were close friends, and the sound of artillery warheads flew past my head, I saw everything in slow motion, the seconds the artillery warheads flew past me, the seconds I saw the building crumbling, the seconds I saw Jack trying to run out, and the seconds when it detonated, right after he left the front door of the United Nations Building in the Middle East, and then all I saw was bright lights and I saw my best mate, Jack, looking at me horrifically and the I saw him blast to millions of pieces. I was Corporal. He was Sergeant Major, due to be 2nd Lieutenant after our easy mission, to clear out the UN Building at a classified location. I saw him with my very own eyes, I saw his girlfriend, Jessica flashing back into my mind, I broke down and cried on the very spot. The whole building crumbled. The explosion was so powerful, I was standing 20 yards away and was thrown off for almost another 27yards. I landed with a crash and from 47 yards all I see was fire, smoke, debris, pieces of Jack, pieces of Martin, pieces of Adam and pieces of Captain Dick. I could not help myself but sobbed. And till this day, I felt regret as I did not dare to move in to pull Jack or my other friends away, but Colonel Buck said this, "Its not your fault Seiss, we serve in the army and this is what we are prepared to do. Its not your fault. Don't blame it on you. We have lost four most important soldiers in your command, you are next in line soldier, make it your best squad."
And from that day on, I was sent to Operation Col. Which simply means Colonel in short. I was selected, finished the entire course, and now I'm a Colonel. Together we had a lot of missions, one by one I took out the enemy out of revenge, I stayed at the Middle East for another three years.
And now here.
As I heard the artillery shells coming, I commanded all my soldiers out of the enemy building and get a 50yards shelter right now. I selected Private Hicks, Private Hinton, Private Nick, Corporal Sean and Sergeant Doc. The six of us went in and took out as many enemies as we can, and suddenly I felt the entire building shaked. We tried to run, I heard explosions, my mind raced for an escape route, I found one, the front door.
"THE DOOR! THE DOOR!" I screamed. The five of them ran past me, looking behind I saw three enemies running towards me, weapons on their hand but not firing, I turned and ran. We escaped. All of us suffered serious injuries, the three enemies were captured, one of them asked me, "Why didn't you shoot?"
"I looked at him and said, I have no heart, you weren't gonna shoot me. Why should I open fire?"
"Well, you did ambushed us." he replied.
I was amazed by his language. "How did you know English?"
"Oh I'm a translator."
"Ah." I said.
I had serious injuries and was decomissioned. But it was all worth it. There were less battle already, my squad became a testing squad, we tested new weapons, vehicles, ammunition, missiles and more. Now the challenges I found is at the Military College. Where I teach tips and tricks and how to be alert of different kinds of sounds. It wasn't that bad. I had my leg completely amputated by the explosion, I had an artificial arm, and two of my ribs are replaced with titanium, to avoid rust.
"And that's how my father, Seiss McWoods been through in his life. Thank you."
